Modelled 10-year averages (ERA5 / ERA5-Land via Open-Meteo), checked against the Pyramid research station in the Khumbu, 2016-2025 (within about 1–2 °C of the station's measurements). Temperatures only: the model's rainfall is too coarse to trust in rain-shadow valleys such as Manang, so we leave it out. Mountain valleys and ridges vary more than these grid-model averages show.

How to read these numbers

The tables show 10-year averages from a weather model, adjusted for each place’s elevation. They’re good for comparing months and places, but a single night can be much colder, especially at Annapurna Base Camp, where cold air settles in the Sanctuary.

The seasons

  • Spring (March to May): warming days and rhododendron forests in bloom on the lower trail. Afternoon cloud builds towards May.
  • Monsoon (June to September): heavy rain on this side of the Annapurnas, cloud hiding the peaks, and leeches in the forest.
  • Autumn (late September to November): the clearest skies of the year and the busiest trail.
  • Winter (December to February): clear but cold at the top, with snow possible above Deurali. Check avalanche conditions with your guide.
